Former Atlanta Journal – Constitution Facility Corrective Actions

Atlanta, GA | 2014 – Ongoing

Scope of Services

  • Engineering Design for Corrective Action Plan
  • MPE System Installation and Start-Up

Notable Accomplishments

To address the multiple free product zones beneath the site, the CAP included an engineering design for a fixed MPE remediation system, which incorporated down-well groundwater control and enhanced fluid recovery. Oasis’s design included innovative measures to address site conditions which were complicated by the presence of extensive underground utilities, nearby buildings, and overhead structures.

Project summary

Oasis was retained to perform activities associated with the installation and start-up of a multi-phase extraction (MPE) system with total fluids recovery. The objective of the system was to remove free product which exceeded one-eighth inch in thickness and to reduce dissolved phase concentrations to below 5,000 micrograms per liter (µg/L) at the site. Work also included quarterly sampling, laboratory analysis, and report preparation as required by Georgia EPD regulations, as well as completed weekly discharge sample collection in order to maintain the site’s discharge permit.

Oasis performed additional site investigation activities and completed a multi-phase extraction (MPE) pilot test to develop a Corrective Action Plan (CAP) for the facility. The project required close interaction with representatives of both the client and Georgia EPD in order to develop a strategy that satisfied the technical and financial requirements of project stakeholders.
