Atlanta, GA | 2010

Scope of Services

  • Subsurface Exploration
  • Geotechnical Engineering Design
  • Construction Materials Testing
  • Special Inspections

Notable Accomplishments

At the time of development, this solar project was one of the largest solar installations in downtown Atlanta.

Oasis Consulting Services provided a subsurface evaluation and crafted a cost-effective solution to successfully remediate the existing fill, allowing for shallow foundation support for the solar arrays. Beyond providing cost savings for the project, this solution allowed for the project to be completed on time.

Project summary

Oasis Consulting Services performed a geotechnical subsurface exploration, geotechnical engineering design, construction materials testing, and special inspection for this solar array project, which was the first and largest solar installation of its kind in downtown Atlanta. The project included SPT drilling, shallow and intermediate (drilled pier) foundation design, and recommendations for bearing capacity and pavement design. The 25-panel array provides an estimated 25% of the Turner building’s total annual energy needs, and also provides energy to Ted’s Montana Grill Restaurant on the ground floor of the building. As a result of the revolutionary use of solar canopies for cover of the parking lot, the project will generate nearly 200 kilowatt hours – enough to prevent an estimated 82 metric tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere.
